A Look Back...

We were inspired to do the Babylon Smith graphic novel by comic legend Timothy Bradstreet. His cinematic style and amazing design work really made us sit up and take notice. We have followed his incredible career for over twenty years.
This is the image that started it all. It was an early attempt at creating a ‘Bradstreet style’. We have since developed our own illustrated style for the book but the influence of Bradstreet is never far away. This image was originally shot in 1996 and was subsequently reworked in 2008. Our old friend Jeff Snider is the model (he also provided the costuming and props). We shot this in Paul’s living room with a desk lamp and a crappy disposable camera. Inks on the soldier were provided by Kelly Dodd. The background is a composite made up of hydro lines shot in Quebec and buildings shot in Vancouver.
